Policy

The University may wish to take special note of visitors by designating them as Visiting Scholars (academic colleagues from other colleges or universities) or University Guests (other visitors). Nominations for Visiting Scholar status may be made by department heads, with the endorsement of the appropriate dean, to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost.

Visiting Scholars enjoy (a) library privileges identical with those of the faculty; (b) the privilege of auditing classes without fee or record; (c) the privilege of attending and taking part in seminars; and (d) the use of laboratory and other space and facilities to the extent they are available. In addition, Visiting Scholars may purchase faculty parking permits and tickets to UA Presents events at employee rates.

The status of University Guest may be proposed by a department head to the appropriate dean and recommended by the latter to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost. If the proposal is approved, the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost will write a letter of welcome to the person concerned, extending the same privileges outlined for Visiting Scholars.
