Policy

Appointed personnel are encouraged to engage in continuous professional development, including pursuing advanced degrees as appropriate. Employees who seek an advanced degree must consider whether doing so will present a conflict of interest or a conflict of commitment with their University duties and responsibilities, as those terms are described in University and ABOR policies. Employees will not be permitted to seek an advanced degree program within their own departments unless they receive approval from the Provost to do so, as this is generally considered a conflict of interest. Appointed personnel who are interested in pursuing an advanced degree are encouraged to discuss their plans in advance with their supervisor. Degree programs that require classroom instruction during regular work hours will require supervisor approval.
