In order to create a safe and secure workplace and to ensure that university employees are qualified to perform the jobs for which the university hires them, the university will conduct pre-employment screening, including criminal background checks on all finalists.
This policy outlines the requirements for pre-employment screening, including criminal record background checks, for all university employees and designated campus colleague affiliates, associates and volunteers.
To increase campus safety and security measures, the president has announced the expansion of the current employee criminal record background check process to include all graduate assistants/associates (GAs) hired or experiencing a qualified job change effective July 1, 2023 or later. Currently, fingerprint-based criminal record background checks are conducted on GAs in security-sensitive positions or who disclose prior felony convictions. This revision will authorize name-based criminal background checks to be conducted on all GAs holding non-security sensitive positions.
