PROPOSED REVISION: Parental Leave Policy

Purpose and Summary

Two revisions are proposed to this policy:

  1. Currently, the policy states that to be eligible for parental leave, the employee must have been employed by the University for at least 12 months. This language is being modified to read "at least 12 continuous months," to clarify that a break in employment and return to work within the past 12 months means an employee is ineligible for paid parental leave.
  2. The current policy states that if an employee does not return to work for at least 90 days following the leave, the employee shall reimburse the University for salary and benefits paid during the leave. This policy revision reduces the “return to work time period from 90 days to 30 days to support new parents who are struggling to manage work and parenting while giving the department a period to plan a transition.
